In Case You Missed It!

In Case You Missed It!

On Monday night, September 19, OPC Disaster Response held a live information session via Zoom for our disaster response registrants. Members of the Neon Disaster Oversight Committee took turns reporting on the progress and future of the effort. Each disaster committee consists of local church deacons, elders, pastors, as well as presbytery members and OPC Disaster Response Administrator, David Nakhla.

Members of this Committee are: Local church representatives, Elder Lacy Andrews, Elder Hank Belfield, Elder Seth Long, and Pastor Jay Bennett; Presbytery representatives are: Elder Mike Cloy, Landis OPC, Marion, NC, and Deacon Tim Hopper, Shiloh OPC, Raleigh, NC; and for the denomination, David Nakhla. Other contributing members of the committee are Neon Disaster Volunteer Coordinator, Jane Robinson, member of Providence OPC, Chillhowie, WV; Site Coordinator, Deacon Art Allen from Shiloh OPC, Raleigh, NC, Muckout Coordinator, Reuben Long, member of Neon Reformed OPC, Neon, KY; Disaster Response advisors John Voss, Covenant OPC, Orland Park, IL and Jim Flanagan, Covenant OPC, New Bern, NC and OPC Disaster Response Communications Coordinator, Trish Duggan, member of New Hope OPC, Bridgeton, NJ.

We are grateful for the registrants who took the time to find out more about what's going on with the disaster effort in Neon, Kentucky. Catastrophic flooding overnight on July 28, 2022 brought over six and a half feet of water into the Neon Reformed OPC building. This record-breaking flood brought ten to twelve feet of water into the town, delivering inches of mud; destroying homes and businesses. You can find out more about the effort by visiting this page on our site. We hope you enjoy this information session!
