Hurricane Helene

Please pray and ask those around you to pray for the OP Church families in the Presbytery of the South as well as our sister churches as Hurricane Helene, predicted to be a category 3 or 4 at landfall, bears down on that region.

Elder Dan Burns from Calvary OPC in Tallahassee where a possible significant impact from Hurricane Helene is predicted, passes on some more specific prayer requests:

I think we’re about as prepared as we can be here in Tallahassee, FL. As you pray, please remember our many widows and elderly as well as four families that had to evacuate due to mandatory evacuations. They are staying with church members and family. We have three college students staying in town for the storm, two don’t have transportation. We have one member who is active national guard and is working today. Another member is an electrician and works on emergency generators, so he is working through the storm also. Several families have voluntarily evacuated to Georgia and Alabama. Many more have sheltered in place. Please also pray for Pastor John Sharpe as he prepares sermons for Sunday in the hopes of being able to gather together. Thank you for your prayers.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. —Psalm 46:1-5

OPC Disaster Response will be in touch with Mark Cerasale, the presbytery's diaconal chairman, and will update as we know more.
